Who Should I Train With?

Choosing between PADI or SSI for your Open Water Scuba Training

Students often ask us the difference between SDI and PADI, and who they should choose for their Open Water training.

Both PADI and SDI are part of the World Recreational Scuba Training Council (WRSTC). This training council sets the minimum standards for each scuba course so the core curriculum is pretty similar between PADI and SDI. When it comes to your actual certification card, PADI and SDI are accepted at dive shops and charters worldwide. If you decide to go beyond the initial open water training, you can easily switch back and forth between agencies without repeating courses.

The truth is, choosing one agency over another for recreational diving won't limit your diving opportunities in any way. The certification agency you choose comes down to the instructor, learning materials, and personal preference. PADI has a great eLearning program, which is great for self-paced learning. SDI encourages more of a hybrid approach, with combined classroom and eLearning sessions.

Since we teach both PADI and SDI, we can help you decide which training agency is right for you!
